Android 12 is out and Xiaomi users may be patiently waiting for an answer to this question: When is the MIUI 13 update coming? Even though Xiaomi is to announce anything officially on this front, a leak from the codes of MIUI suggests that MIUI 13 is destinedTto debut with upcoming Xiaomi 12X and the Redmi K50.
Based on a report from Xiaomiui, who have a reliable track record with Xiaomi leaks and updates, the MIUI 13 update will be released along with Xiaomi 12X and the Redmi K50. However, both these phones at launch are said to be running MIUI 13 based on Android 11. An update to Android 12 is said to come later in 2022.
MIUI 13 leak reveals debut with Xiaomi 12X
The MIUI 13 update is supposed to be another notable upgrade from the long-running MIUI 12 series update. MIUI 12 itself brought several visual changes in 2020 to Xiaomi phones and later in 2021, the company revealed the MIUI 12.5 update with refinements as well as other improvements. MIUI 13 is expected to offer a drastic change in comparison.
As usual with Xiaomi phones, MIUI updates are independent of the Android version updates. Hence, the report suggests that many older Xiaomi devices will receive MIUI 13 based on the older Android 11 build whereas newer devices will get them with Android 12. Xiaomi, like most OEMs, only commits to two OS updates for its smartphones.
The report even goes on to predict the supported devices that will receive the MIUI 13 update. The newest models from the Xiaomi 11 series and Redmi Note 11, Note 10 and Note 9 series are all expected to get the new MIUI 13 update. Several budget devices are also included in the list, including the Redmi 9 series devices and their 2021 iterations that are available in India.
Note that Xiaomi is yet to announce the list of supported devices, hence you should wait for an official update on this front. Currently, the MIUI 12.5 update is the latest version of Xiaomi’s MIUI OS. The Redmi Note 11T 5G that launched in India today comes pre-loaded with MIUI 12.5 based on Android 11.
