WhatsApp has been working on several new features over the past few months, such as improved multi-device support, encrypted chat backups on the cloud, custom privacy settings and much more. The encrypted messenger service is now working on adding support for hiding a user’s About section of their profile from certain contacts.
Previous leaks from beta versions of the app had revealed a hidden setting for ‘My contacts except…’ for Profile Photos on the app, which meant users could select specific contacts to hide their Profile Photo on the app. This feature was spotted after a leak revealed that WhatsApp was working on a setting to allow users to hide their “Last Seen” from specific WhatsApp contacts. Now, feature leaker WABetaInfo has spotted a third menu item, that allows users to hide their About section from specific contacts.
Based on the image of the setting leaked by WABetaInfo, it appears that WhatsApp users will be able to select a new option called ‘My contacts except…’ in addition to ‘Nobody’, ‘Everyone’ and ‘My contacts’ on the app. However, as the leaker has previously noted, while users will eventually be able to hide these sections from specific users, they will not be able to see those users respective sections as well. If a user hides their Last Seen from a user, they will not be able to see the Last Seen of that user as well.
While there is no word on when the ability to hide your About section on a profile will roll out along with the other custom privacy settings, users can make sure they get all these settings first by downloading the beta version of the app from a reliable source like APKMirror. The beta programs for Android and iOS are currently full, which means that users will not be able to register until more slots are available. However, considering these hidden settings have already been spotted, it is only a matter of time before they are released in the future.
